YPSILANTI, Mich. (WWJ) -- A man is in jail after allegedly firing shots at a woman's vehicle while driving along I-94 in the area west of Metro Detroit Airport on Thursday.
Michigan State Police say they received a 911 call around 4:30 p.m. from a woman who reported another driver fired a gunshot at her on westbound I-94 near Merriman. The shot did not hit her car, according to police.
During her 911 call, the woman was able to provide the suspect's license plate number to police. At the time, a trooper was just west of the location where the shooting occurred and was able to stop the suspect vehicle within minutes of the shooting. The suspect was stopped near Michigan Avenue in Ypsilanti.
Police say the victim identified the shooter as the driver of the vehicle and a weapon has been recovered.
Authorities are still investigating, but MSP says the suspect will spend the night in jail with charges pending. Police said the passengers of the suspect vehicle are being interviewed, as will the suspect.
I-94 was closed near Merriman for a short time, while police investigated. All traffic was ramped off the freeway ar Merriman, but the freeway has since reopened.
