WESTLAND (WWJ) - A 68-year-old driver from Westland has died, according to police, after crashing into a semi truck.
It happened just before 12:30 p.m. Thursday, according to Westland police, near the intersection of Ford Rd and Christine, near Wayne Road, in Westland.
The driver was headed eastbound on Ford Rd, when his vehicle went off the south side of the roadway and struck a semi, which was was preparing to pull onto Ford Rd.
The man was taken to a local hospital where he died, police said. He was the only person in his vehicle, and no one in the semi truck was injured.
Police said it's still unclear what caused the man's vehicle to veer off the road, as an investigation by the Westland Police Traffic Bureau continues. The man's name was not released.
Eastbound Ford Rd. was closed to traffic at Christine Ave. as a result of the accident, with police on the scene, but it has since reopened to traffic.
