(WWJ) Police are searching for the person who pulled the trigger last night in a quadruple shooting on Detroit's east side.

Authorities say just before 11pm, three men and a woman were along Canton Street near Gratiot and Warren when a car pulled up and a person inside opened fire. Two of the victims were critically wounded while the other two are stable

No description was available on the suspect or the car.

Anyone with information pertaining to this incident is asked to please call Detroit Police Department’s Fifth Precinct at ‪313-596-5740, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak Up.

This comes amid stepped-up violence across the city during the coronavirus pandemic.

Thirty-three people were shot last weekend alone in Detroit while Police Chief James Craig says numbers coming out of Chicago, New York and other major cities tell a similar story.

"In my professional judgement, a couple of things are driving the violence. Certainly, we'll start with COVID," Craig said. "Some may ask: What does COVID have to do with violence? I think a contributing factor has been the stay-at-home (order). Another factor had been the early release of individuals that had been incarcerated, because of COVID."
