BRANDON TWP. (WWJ) - An elderly Oakland County woman has died, according to authorities, after she accidently set herself on fire.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to a call Monday evening, in the 3000 block of Cedar Loop in Brandon Township, about a person who had caught fire.
The fire was out by the time authorities arrived, and paramedics administered medical treatment at the scene.
The victim, identified as a 73-year-old Brandon Township woman, was taken by EMS to an area hospital where she died of her injuries.
An OCSO fire investigator found that, while using the gas stove, the victim’s hair and clothing caught fire.
Officials say the woman suffers from dementia, which may have been a factor. Her name was not immediately released.
