State Police: 1 Killed In Crash On I-94 Near Metro Airport

ROMULUS (WWJ) - Michigan State Police said one person was killed in a crash along I-94 near Detroit Metro Airport Monday afternoon.

A preliminary investigation determined that the at-fault driver sideswiped a vehicle in the center lane of eastbound I-94 at a high rate of speed. The other driver lost control, police said, and then hit a pole near Vining Road.

Police an 18-year-old male from Taylor was killed in the accident. The victim's identity has not been released, as next of kin had not been identified.

Traffic was backed up for a couple of hours on both sides of the freeway, which was completely closed for a time at the crash scene on the eastbound side, and partially closed on the westbound side.

Police said the freeway re-opened around 6 p.m. and the crash investigation was completed. It is unclear whether the other driver was injured in the incident.
