MONROE TWP. (WWJ) - Michigan State Police are investigating a case of child abuse at a Monroe Township daycare center; although the primary suspect is already dead.
According to the MSP Monroe Post, detectives launched the investigation last week after an unresponsive 3-month old boy was taken from the Live, Laugh and Learn Daycare to a Toledo hospital. Doctors there found the infant had been hit and suffered significant brain trauma, police said.
An investigation led detectives to the daycare owner's, Jamie Vanslambruck, who -- two days after the infant was taken to the hospital -- was found dead in Lasalle Township "from a self-inflicted injury," according to police.
As the investigation continues, anyone with information relating to this case is asked to call Det. Michael Peterson at the MSP Monroe Post at 734-242-3500.
The child's name has not been released.
