ARMADA (WWJ) - A northern Macomb County man has been arrested, accused threatening to shoot up a local business.
According to Michigan State Police, a witness on Thursday called 911 to report the 52-year-old suspect, identified as an Armada Township resident, told him he was bored and should go to a local business "with an AK and 12 rounds."
"It was just a conversation between the two of them," said MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw. "And since he knew that (the suspect) already had some weapons in his home, the complainant was concerned enough that he gave us a call."
MSP troopers seized one semi-automatic long gun and a pistol from the man's home, in the 23000 block of Armada Center Rd. They interviews the man, and placed him under arrest on an expected charge of making a terrorist threat.
"We're in the process now of gathering some other evidence and presenting it to the Macomb County Prosecutor to determine if there are criminal charges," Shaw said.
Police are not naming the business that was mentioned at this time.
"It is important to note that making any type of threats, even if it’s a 'joke,' is a crime and will be investigated," Shaw added. "If you see or hear something suspicious, contact law enforcement immediately."
Are the suspect and the witness friends? "Probably not anymore," Shaw said.
The suspect, who's name has not yet been released, remains lodged at the Macomb County Jail. He could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted of a terror threat charge.
