SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - Some disturbing allegations have been made public as the state revokes the license of a Southfield child care center.
The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) on Monday announced the case against ABC Early Learning Center – operated by Brown Investment Group at 29829 Telegraph Road -- for "violations related to appropriate care and supervision, staff suitability and accurately reporting incidents to the department."
Following up on a complaint, state investigators say they found that a staff member at the facility had intentionally harmed two different children by hiding a thumbtack between his or her fingers and making physical contact with the kids.
Specifically, one of the incidents involved "the employee hugging a child while placing a palm on the child’s back to press the thumbtack into the child’s shoulder," the agency alleges.
An official at the daycare is accused of lying about the incident. No further details about the allegations or the person accused of hurting the kids were released.
A licensee has the right to appeal what's called a summary suspension, which is an emergency measure designed to protect public health, safety, and welfare.
The suspension, which is effective as of last Wednesday, prohibits Brown Investment Group from operating a child care center at the Southfield property or at any other location. It also requires that parents of kids who attended the daycare be informed of the suspension.
