MELVINDALE, Mich. (WWJ) -- Police are warning parents of a case of stranger danger in Melvindale.

Police say a nine-year-old girl was walking along Henry Street north of Martel around 8:30 a.m. Thursday when she passed a man in a white van.

The man rolled down the window and asked "do you want to come in my van?"

The girl stopped to ask the man what he said and he repeated himself.

Police say the girl ignored the man and continued walking to her bus stop and got on without incident.

Authorities say the girl's parents are aware of the situation, as are officials at Allendale Elementary School.

Police say the van has no rear windows and some type of writing on the side, with an attached trailer that has green and red writing on it. Authorities posted on Facebook a picture of the van, shown in the background, on Facebook, asking for the community to come forward with tips.

The driver is described as an older white male, short dark hair and no facial hair.

Police continue to investigate and are asking the public to share information about the incident. Anyone who knows anything about the van is asked to contact Melvindale police at (313) 429-1070.
