DETROIT (WWJ) - Two men are in custody after leading police on a chase through Detroit in a stolen vehicle.
The incident unfolded just before 5 a.m. Tuesday when Michigan State Police troopers tried to stop a Kia Soul for an unspecified traffic violation along I-96 near I-94. When troopers ran the plates, they found that the car had been stolen in Roseville. The suspect driver failed to stop and a pursuit ensued.
The driver fled westbound on I-96 to Davison Avenue, where the vehicle exited onto Wyoming Avenue from the Davison ramp. Shortly after exiting the freeway, the vehicle sustained a flat tire. That tire eventually flew off the car, but the driver still continued to flee.
Eventually, the driver lost control and struck a light pole at the intersection of West Chicago Avenue and Heyden Street. Police say three men then attempted to run from the car. The driver and one of the passengers were arrested after a short foot pursuit. Charges are pending.
A firearm was also located in the vehicle.
The incident remains under investigation.
