OAKLAND COUNTY (WWJ) - The Oakland County Board of Commissioners had a special meeting scheduled Thursday to appoint the next County Executive, but it has been canceled.
The issue will be considered at the next regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, Aug. 15.
Chief Deputy County Executive Gerald Poisson was sworn in as interim Executive following the death of L. Brooks Patterson on Saturday.
The Board says it can appoint someone to serve out the rest of Patterson's term within 30 days of his vacancy.
Board Chair Dave Woodward resigned Wednesday, as he looks to get his name on the list of candidates.
The deadline to submit applications is Tuesday, Aug. 13 at noon. The board will then review all applications before making a decision.
Applications are available online at oakgov.com/boc. For more information, call 248-858-0100.
Patterson died at the age of 80 from stage four pancreatic cancer.
