WARREN (WWJ) - A Warren police officer accused of sending text messages of a sexual nature to a 16-year-old high school student has been fired from the department.
Police Commissioner William Dwyer announced Wednesday that the unnamed officer was terminated following an internal investigation.
"We investigated the incident that revealed behavior unbecoming one of our officers and as a result, he has been separated from the Police Department," Dwyer said in a statement.
The officer was placed on paid suspension earlier this month after the girl's parents tipped off police. He apparently met the girl at a local restaurant, though circumstances surrounding the incident weren't released.
Dwyer said the officer was on the force for about eight years.
