WARREN (WWJ) - A Warren police officer is on paid suspension for allegedly sending text messages of a sexual nature to a 16-year-old high school student.

Police Commissioner William Dwyer tells WWJ the officer was suspended on Friday after the girl's parents tipped off the department.

Dwyer said formal charges will take place at an internal hearing on Thursday, which could eventually lead to discipline.

The officer apparently met the girl at a local restaurant. Other circumstances surrounding the incident weren't released.

The officer's name has not been released, but Dwyer says he has been on the force for about eight years.
