"The American people need a wage increase. They need a $15-an-hour minimum wage and that is what Joe Biden is proposing. And Joe Biden understands that it is absurd that women in America ..."
Bernie Sanders uttered those lines before his mic dropped out at a Democratic campaign stop Monday night in Macomb County and all eyes were drawn to a woman waving a gigantic Trump flag in front of the stage.
She planted her feet and yelled "Donald Trump" over and over. Onlookers first attempted to rip away the woman's oversized flag that blocked views of Bernie, then a security guard approached and could be overheard saying she would be arrested if she didn't stand down.
People in the audience shouted, "lock her up" and "get her out of here."
The woman refused to move as security tried to pressure her out of the way of the stage. Eventually, the woman threw herself on the ground and an attendee ran away with the flag while she yelled from the pavement, "that's my flag."
The video was posted on a popular Reddit thread called "public freak out" as "unhinged Trump supporter tries to rush the stage with Trump flag at Bernie Sanders rally for Joe Biden at Macomb Community College."
Reddit users gave the video 373 upvotes and comments including, "Indeed this is how you handle people like that. Don't give them an inch. His ability to continue took any perceived power away that person thought they had."
And this: "If you think Bernie Sanders is going to be shook by some middle-aged white woman with Stockholm syndrome you don't know much about Bernie Sanders.... Dude has been fighting against hate and bigotry his whole life."
For his part, Sanders kept going in front of the crowd of 180 vehicles in the parking lot filled with supporters and made his case for Biden.
"Tens of millions of our fellow citizens have lost their jobs as a result of the pandemic," he said. "They have lost their incomes. They have lost their health insurance. They have depleted their life savings. They cannot afford to pay rent or mortgages. They cannot afford to put food on the table. And they going deeper and deeper into debt. And my Republican colleagues can spin it any way they want, but that is the reality."
