WESTLAND (WWJ) - An investigation is underway in Westland where police and EMS responded to a call at a school about children sickened after eating "edibles."

Several ambulances were on the scene along with police Thursday at Adams Upper Elementary.

According to Westland Police Sgt. Robert Wilkie, one student was taken to a local hospital, while several others  -- five or so -- were picked up by parents. He said the condition of the child in the hospital is not known at the time, nor are the ages of the children involved.

Wayne-Westland Supt. Dr. Shelley Holt told WWJ's Mike Campbell, "We believe the kids are going to be ok,"

Holt said it's still unclear what was in the edibles, a word typically used to described candy or baked goods made with marijuana or another drug. She said the kids consumed the product before they got to school.

"...We know that this came from home," Holt added. "And we as parents have to be vigilant about what it is that our kids have in their possession as they are leaving our homes."

It's unclear what charges may be filed in this case. Wilkie said police are actively investigating the matter, looking for the source.
