DETROIT – The Michigan Men’s Health Foundation is hosting the 16th annual Men’s Health Event on Saturday, September 26, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Wayne State Fieldhouse in Detroit.Men 18 years and older, with or without health insurance, are encouraged to take advantage of this free event focused on preventative healthcare.
Services will include vital screenings, bloodwork, vaccinations, HIV testing, oral cancer and dental checks, vision screenings, skin cancer screenings, vein dopplers, foot screenings, colorectal cancer FIT kits, posture and spine evaluation, kidney screenings and mental health evaluations. “We want to empower men to take charge of their health care and experience more life,” said Dr. Michael Lutz, urologist, founder and president of the Michigan Men’s Health Foundation. “By prioritizing annual health screenings, being active, reducing stress and eating well, men can ensure they have more life: more energy, more joy, more Saturdays, more time with family, more kickoffs and more tee times.
”An assessment of current health and screenings for some of the most treatable diseases will be provided at the event. Since many illnesses are preventable, the event also offers a better understanding of how to live a healthy lifestyle, information about men’s health topics and increased awareness about advances in health care.
The free health screenings and tests will be provided in partnership with Corewell Health, Henry Ford Health, Wayne Health and other medical groups, and are comprehensively valued at more than $2,000. In addition to standard vital measurements, blood screenings will test for prostate-specific antigen (PSA), testosterone, hemoglobin A1c and a full lipid panel. EKG testing will be provided by Corewell Health.
“Far too often, men avoid going to the doctor and don’t recognize and prioritize their physical and mental health,” Dr. Lutz said. “This is an opportunity to sit down with medical experts, one-on-one, and ask any questions you have, free of charge
.”This year’s event will include an Lp(a) screening (lipoprotein (a), a type of cholesterol-carrying particle in the blood that can increase the risk of heart disease and stroke and is primarily influenced by genetics), which is said to be a strong risk predictor of cardiovascular disease.
“There is significant value in these results, and cardiologists across the country are clamoring to do this test on their patients,” Dr. Lutz said. “We’re planning on offering it at no charge to every attendee.
”More than 20,000 metro Detroiters have attended and 130,000 health screenings have been conducted since the Men’s Health Event first began in 2011. The event annually attracts about 1,000 men.
