(WWJ) Cannabis company Natrabis has announced it will break ground next week on a 54,000 square-foot cultivation facility in Oakland County.
The new Natrabis facility will be located at 4601 Liberty Drive South in Lake Orion.
Natrabis says the massive $20 million project will be one of the "most technically advanced marijuana cultivation facilities in the state of Michigan," with its own processing center and development plans for five retail locations.
The project will bring roughly 65 new jobs to the area, according to the company -- which will hiring plant managers, controllers, compliance officers, lab technicians, cultivation technicians, administrative, janitorial, packagers and for positions in marketing/sales.
The company say it will be using some "very tech-savvy processes" inside the facility -- which will house 20,000 plants -- to reduce their environmental footprint, improve quality and operating efficiency and reduce waste.
"We're really excited to bring innovation and new industry opportunities to the local community and the state of Michigan," said Nick Simpson, Natrabis Partner, in a news release. "We've been in the industry for over 20 years and are committed to producing the highest quality cannabis at an affordable price through the use of cutting-edge technology, and we can't wait to start growing with Michigan."
Natrabis will break ground on Thursday, Oct. 29, and expects the Lake Orion facility to be completed in February 2021.
Michigan voters legalized marijuana for medical use in 2008, and for recreational use by adults in 2018.
