(WWJ) If it seems like WWJ Newsradio 950 has always been there for you, it's because we have.
Thursday was National Radio Day, and WWJ celebrated its 100th Birthday! The station went on the air August 20th, 1920 as 8MK and has continued to broadcast news, information, sports and entertainment each day since.
As we reminisce about the past, we're also excited for what the future holds.
The chairman of the Federal Communications Commission Ajit Pai spoke today with WWJ morning anchors Roberta Jasina and Tom Jordan about local news and giving AM radio a chance to thrive.
One of WWJ's greatest assets is our team of sharp, professional and fearless street reporters. One of the most recognizable of these is surely Charlie Langton, who talked with WWJ's Jason Scott about strangest stories he's covered. Take a listen:
Speaking of reporters, our multi-award winning Vickie Thomas took a moment to look back at her many years covering the Detroit City beat for WWJ.
"This really is a monumental event," said David Field, the President and CEO of Entercom, the parent company of WWJ.
He called in to talk with our Tom Jordan about the enduring importance of radio.
