1.5 million Michigan residents expected to travel for Fourth of July weekend

Travel volumes for Independence Day will be the second-highest on record throughout the country

(WWJ) -- Travel continues to rebound after a year-long pandemic.

Triple A predicts that travel volumes for Independence Day will be the second-highest on record -- nearing the highs set in 2019.

Nearly 48 million people nationwide are expected to take a trip over the 4th of July weekend, which is up 40% from last year.

About 1.5 million Michigan residents are planning to travel. That's the third-most on record, and 22% more than last year.

"Travel is back this summer, as Americans eagerly pursue vacations they've deferred for the last year-and-a-half," said Debbie Haas, Vice President of Travel for AAA. "We saw strong demand for travel around Memorial Day and the kick-off of summer, and all indications now point to a busy Independence Day."

Among the top Independence Day travel destinations are Orlando, FL, Anaheim, CA, Denver, CO, Las Vegas, NV and Seattle, WA.
