GROVELAND TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A collision in northwest Oakland County took the life of one man on Friday evening after the SUV he was driving on Dixie Hwy. crossed the centerline and smashed into another vehicle, police say.
Michigan State Police said troopers responded to the two-vehicle crash just after 8:45 p.m. on July 7, which was reported on Dixie Highway near Tripp Road in Oakland County's Groveland Township.
When troopers arrived at the scene, their preliminary investigation showed that the driver of a Suzuki SUV was traveling on southbound Dixie Highway when it appeared to cross the centerline.
As it did, the Suzuki came into the oncoming path of a GMC Acadia headed north and the two vehicles collided.
The force of the crash ejected the driver of the Suzuki, identified as a 25-year-old Oxford man, from the rear window while the two occupants in the GMC sustained minor injuries.
All three people were taken to the hospital for medical treatment, but MSP said the driver of the Suzuki later died of his injuries.
The investigation continues into Saturday morning. Troopers said they are currently awaiting the results of an autopsy to proceed.
It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were factors in the fatal collision.
