DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are hunting for suspects after an argument outside a gas station erupted into deadly gunfire early Tuesday morning, killing one man.
WWJ's Mike Campbell reported live from the scene at Warren and Southfield Roads in Detroit where police had erected caution tape around an Amoco gas station and were placing evidence markers around the business at 6 a.m.
"There was a shooting here about three o'clock this morning," Campbell stated. "The person, an unidentified male -- a John Doe they say -- is lying under a sheet on the sidewalk in front of the business."
According to Campbell, crime scene detectives appear to marking possible shell casings, with almost dozen -- and possibly more -- already mapped out.
Detroit police said they believe the unidentified victim got into an argument with the suspect or suspects outside the gas station. The altercation escalated and the suspect(s) allegedly opened fired on the man, killing him.
As of 6 a.m., the deceased remains unidentified.
According to police, the Amoco gas station is part of the department's Project Green Light partnership program and surveillance obtained from camera's installed at the business captured two people getting into a dark-colored Jeep Grand Cherokee and take off.
"I saw police also walking down a dead-end street in the next block and then through some woods, so they're obviously looking for maybe somebody that ran away as well or left on foot," Campbell said.
The investigation is currently ongoing. No other details were made public.
