LASALLE TWP. (WWJ) -- Emergency crews responded, early Thursday morning, to a deadly crash in a construction zone in Monroe County.

Michigan State Police said the crash happened at around 4 a.m. along I-75 near South Otter Creek Rd., in LaSalle Twp., just south of Monroe.

An investigation found that a semi-truck was deeded south on the freeway, when it barreled through the concrete median barrier hitting three cars in the northbound lanes.

Police said a 47-year-old Belleville man was killed, and two more people in the cars were taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries.

A third person was treated at the scene for minor injuries, according to police.

There were no construction workers in the work zone at the time.

At this time, it's not known what caused the truck driver to cross the median.
