1 injured, multiple vehicles damaged after partial building collapse in Detroit's Eastern Market

DETROIT (WWJ) - Part of a building in Detroit's Eastern Market collapsed on Saturday afternoon, injuring one person standing outside and causing damage to vehicles parked below.

Detroit police confirmed the partial structure collapse occurred around noon at a building on the intersection of Russell and Winder Streets where Jabs Gym and Beyond Juicery & Eatery are located.

The building is across from Eastern Market Shed Two.

One person was injured in the incident as they stood on the street, the Detroit Fire Department said. The victim was said to have sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Multiple vehicles parked on the side of the building were hit by falling debris, as reported by WXYZ.

Earlier reports state an explosion may have occurred at the building, but the official cause of the collapse remains unknown at this time.

Detroit police, the Detroit Fire Department and officials with the City of Detroit's Buildings, Safety Engineering, and Environmental Department are currently at the scene.

An investigation is underway.
