CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - One man was killed and another is in custody after a fight between the two at a Chesterfield Township apartment complex ended in gunfire early Saturday morning.
Chesterfield Township Police said in a release that officers were called out to the were called out to the Aspen Creek Apartments located on 23 Mile Road in the early morning hours of July 29 on reports of a shooting.
When officers arrived at the complex, they found a 27-year-old Chesterfield Township man lying on the ground outside his apartment building, bleeding from a gunshot wound.
While officers immediately began life-saving measures on this victim, others were able to apprehend a male suspect, identified as a 24-year-old Eastpointe man, nearby.
The victim was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, but later died of his injuries, police said.
Detectives determined the shooting was the result of an argument and physical altercation that broke out at the apartment building.
According to police, the suspect was lodged at the Macomb County Jail.
Police said detectives are still gathering evidence in the alleged homicide and criminal charges are pending. Once completed, the case will be turned over to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office for review early next week.
