Canton police searching for driver of black Toyota Camry who allegedly fled scene of fatal pedestrian crash

CANTON (WWJ) - Police are continuing to look for a suspect driver who reportedly took off after hitting and killing a 43-year-old man in Canton on Thursday evening.

The Canton Public Safety Department said officers were first called to the scene west of Michigan Avenue and I-275 around 10:38 p.m. on January 11th on reports of a vehicle-pedestrian crash.


When they arrived, police found a 43-year-old man from Van Buren lying in the road, He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the department, the driver who allegedly struck the victim did not stop at the scene, Police have so far identified a black 2010-2011 Toyota Camry that could possibly be connected to the crash.

The Canton Police Department's Accident Investigation Team was called in to handle the investigation.

Officials are asking people who witnessed the crash or who may have any information about the suspect vehicle to contact the Canton Police Department at 734-394-5400.
