KEEGO HARBOR (WWJ) - One person and a pair of dogs are dead after an early morning fire broke out at a mobile home in Oakland County, authorities said.
West Bloomfield Fire Marshal Byron Turnquist told WWJ that emergency crews responded to the burning Keego Harbor home on Orchard Lake around 12:30 a.m.
According to Turnquist, initial reports said someone was trapped inside the mobile home, but by the time crews arrived on scene, the fire that completely consumed the structure and had spread to another home nearby.
"Freighters tried to make entry into the home through a back door," Turnquist said, but they were immediately met with an obstacle. "Furniture...was blocking that door, so it took them a little bit of extra time to get through that entrance."
Fire fighters continued to attack the fire and got in under control a short while later. The body of one victim and two deceased dogs were discovered inside the home when crews were able to get inside.
The fire marshal said the cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time. The deceased person's identity has not been released.
