VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP (WWJ) -- A crash on Michigan Avenue in Van Buren Township on Tuesday morning left an 11-year-old boy dead and two other people injured.
Investigators say a vehicle broke down in the eastbound lanes of Michigan Avenue near Denton Road around 6:20 a.m.
The boy, along with a girl and a woman, then exited the disabled vehicle before it was hit by another car.
Van Buren Township police say the boy attempted to run across the road after the crash when he was hit by an oncoming car and killed.
The 9-year-old girl and 34-year-old woman were taken to the University of Michigan medical center for evaluation.
All three victims are said to be from Ypsilanti.
Eastbound Michigan Avenue remains closed as police continue the investigation.
