DETROIT (WWJ) - One person is hospitalized and another was arrested following a shooting during a Detroit funeral reception on Friday evening, authorities say.
The Detroit Police Department said on social. media that the incident broke out among family members who had gathered around 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20 at a reception hall near the intersection of Seven Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue.
Family members became involved in a heated altercation inside the hall before it escaped into the street where multiple people produced firearms and began shooting, police added.
One man was still firing off shots in the air when officers arrived to the scene -- he was immediately taken into police custody.
A second man with a gun fled from the scene and police gave a brief chase with shots fired. It is unclear if the man was shot by police or if he had sustained a gunshot wound prior to officers arriving at the hall.
In addition to the one arrest, police also recovered two guns at the scene.
As reported by WDIV, family had gathered to mourn the victim of a hit-and-run crash that happen on Oct. 1.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident. No other details were made public.
