DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police said they've arrested one suspect allegedly involved in a non-fatal shooting of a 9-year-old boy, a 27-year-old woman and an adult man on Monday evening.

Detroit Police Chief James White said investigators are still working on bringing two other suspects into custody.

"We know where a second is and the third is still out. We’re asking for the community’s help," White said.

According to police, the 9-year-old boy was with his father near a vacant hookah lounge around 5:40 p.m. on March 27 on Detroit’s east side near Gratiot Avenue and Eastburn Street when three men approached them and open fired.

An unidentified male and a 27-year-old woman walking nearby were also struck gunfire.

“They shot a 9-year-old. They shot a woman. And then they shot a male in that location," White stated.

The young boy and the woman are continuing to recover at local hospitals while the condition of the adult man remains unknown.

White called the shooting "absolutely unacceptable."

"Gun violence in our country is just getting to a point where it’s a daily occurrence and we cannot become desensitized to it," the chief continued." Particularly, when the most vulnerable in our community, our children and our elderly can’t live in peace. This is absolutely unacceptable."

The chief went on to praise the immediate response of officers with the 9th Precinct and the quick work of detectives to get surveillance footage of the suspects out to the public.

“They quickly dispatched a car to the scene quickly. Their detective units got on the ground quickly and pulled video. We were able to provide the media… with video of three perpetrators. You can see the gun in one of the perpetrators hands as they turned the corner running from that scene," White added.

Still photos captured from surveillance footage were released to the public to help police identify the third suspect. All three suspects are believed to be in their teens, police said.

Officials are asking anyone who knows something about the shooting to call the Detroit Police Department at 313-596-5940 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.

All Crime Stoppers tipsters will remain anonymous.
