DETROIT (WWJ) A Detroit man has been charged with kidnapping a 10-year-old girl and sexually assaulting her.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Cedric Jackson, 59, with Criminal Sexual Conduct First Degree ( victim under 13-17), Kidnapping, and Unlawful Imprisonment.
Detroit Police said, on Wednesday (4/17) around 3:15 p.m., the defendant “lured the victim into his house” on Braille (15700 block) near Lahser and Fenkell, kidnapped her and sexually assaulted her. He then “released her” from his house.
She was examined at a local hospital, then released.
Police said, when the child did not come home from school, her mother reported her missing to Detroit Public School (DPS) officials. DPS officials gave information that led officers to Jackson’s location. A DPS officer took him into custody and called Detroit Police, who took over the investigation.
“Predators are very good at what they do - especially sexual predators. The alleged actions of this defendant targeted a ten-year-old girl,” Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in the release. “It is difficult to understand that there are those who would sexual assault victims who are ten, and even younger. No matter how long we do this work, it gets us in the gut every time.”
It’s unclear if Jackson knew the child. No further information has been released.
