A 10-year-old boy got into a police chase after taking his family’s minivan and it was all because he wanted some Cheerios.
Police in Stillwater, Minnesota noticed the boy driving a 2016 Chrysler minivan on Sunday evening and activated their emergency lights and siren, reported the Twin Cities Pioneer Press.
“The kid took off,” Police Chief Brian Mueller said, as the young boy is believed to have reached speeds of 50 mph.
For the boy’s safety, Mueller stopped the pursuit by shutting off the emergency lights and siren but continued to follow from a distance.
At one point, the novice driver backed up into a yard “narrowly missing a large tree and several other large objects in the process.”
Eventually, police were able to block the minivan from proceeding any further.
“We’re just thankful that nobody was hurt — either the kid driving or any other innocent bystanders,” Mueller told the outlet.
Hunger appeared to be part of the motivation for his dangerous antics, as the boy told police he was heading to Target to buy Cheerios.
The kid’s parents were asleep and told police they had no idea their son had left home or taken the vehicle. The parents also noted the minivan sustained damage to the passenger side “that wasn’t there when they went to bed.”
No word if he ever got some Cheerios.
