TAYLOR (WWJ) -- An 11-year-old boy is dead after getting hit by a car in Taylor Tuesday evening.

Taylor Police said it happened at around 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 10, in the area of Eureka and Pond Village Dr., near Inkster Rd., where the child apparently ran out into the street.

According to Taylor Police Deputy Chief Michael Lividini, the first officer on the scene immediately began CPR, until paramedics arrived.

Despite attempts to safe the boy's life, he was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Lividini said the driver involved, a Plymouth resident, called 911 and cooperated with investigators on the scene.

Police do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in the incident.

"They started their investigation where they interviewed the driver who called us to the scene, and stayed at the scene...Interviewed, ran through some field sobriety (tests), and cleared this person," Lividini said.

Lividini said, while the investigation is ongoing to determine exactly how this happened, it does appear it was a tragic accident.

"I think anytime anyone loses their life in an incident like this I think it's horrific," he said, "and I think this was just a horrible accident."

Lividini said police wish to thank everyone in the community who reached out with their care and concern for the boy, his family, and responding officers.

Lividini added: "Definitely we ask that thoughts and prayers go out to the family of this child, because they've got a long road ahead of them."

Police are not releasing the child's name at this time.
