(WWJ) — A dozen people are in custody in connection with a human trafficking operation after a series of raids at Macomb County homes and health spas on Wednesday.
Around 7 a.m. the Macomb County Sheriff’s Enforcement Team and federal authorities executed search warrants at two homes in Macomb Township and health spas in Shelby Township and Sterling Heights.
Authorities identified the businesses as 25 Health Spa on Shelby Road near 25 Mile in Shelby Twp. and Healing Plus Spa on Mound Road near 17 Mile.
Many details regarding the arrests remain under wraps as the investigation continues, but officials with the sheriff’s office said all search warrants were connected to an alleged human trafficking operation.
Six people were arrested by the sheriff’s office and six were arrested by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Authorities did not release any names, ages or hometowns for anyone who was arrested.
A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office told WWJ no further information could be released at this time, as the investigation remains ongoing and interviews are underway.
