13-year-old girl caught in the crossfire as ATV, SUV exchange gunfire in Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) – The search for multiple shooting suspects is underway after a 13-year-old girl was caught in the crossfire in Detroit.

The shooting happened around 7 p.m. Saturday, March 5, in the area of 7 Mile Road and Schoenherr on the city’s east side, authorities said.

Witnesses told police two men on an ATV were exchanging gunfire with someone in a black SUV, according to Detroit police.

The teenager was not believed to be targeted in the shooting, as she was just walking down the street at the time of the shooting, Detroit police said.

The girl was grazed by a bullet in the foot and was listed in stable condition.

It was not clear whether the bullet that hit the girl came from the ATV or SUV.

Detroit police have released Project Green Light video that shows the men riding on the ATV near a gas station in the area around the time of the shooting.

The men are seen cutting through a gas station parking lot and then heading down a residential street.

Authorities are asking anyone who recognizes the men or may have other information about the shooting to call the Detroit Police Department’s 9th Precinct at 313-596-5940 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.

All Crime Stoppers tipsters will remain anonymous.
