DETROIT (WWJ) -- A 14-year-old boy is dead after he was shot while walking home from school on Wednesday on Detroit's east side.
According to Detroit Police, the tragic shooting shooting happened at around 4 p.m., less than a mile from the child's school: East English Village Preparatory Academy on Bedford Street, near I-94 and King Richard Street.
Detroit Police, Wayne County Sheriff's deputies and Michigan State Police investigators were all on the scene, Wednesday afternoon, speaking with witnesses.
According to a report by WDIV-TV, neighbors said they heard raised voices before they saw one shooter and one gun. After the gunfire stopped, the 14-year-old boy was dead.
There is no description of the shooter at this time.
Several teens were taken into custody for questioning, including some other East English Village students. However, there's no word yet on whether police have a suspect in custody.
The name of the boy who was killed was not immediately released.
