(WWJ) — A 15-year-old boy is behind bars after allegedly leading police on a chase through Monroe County Sunday night.
It all unfolded around 8 p.m. on Jan. 12, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.
Officials say a sheriff's lieutenant tried to pull over a car in the area of Third and Monroe Streets in the city of Monroe, but the driver took off speeding over 60 mph in the residential area.
The lieutenant immediately terminated the pursuit, officials said, but officers with the Monroe Public Safety Department picked up the chase a short time later after spotting the car in the area of Winchester and Elm.
A sheriff's deputy joined the pursuit on northbound I-75 near Dixie Highway, according to the sheriff's office.
The car fled into Frenchtown Township, but returned to Monroe, where the driver pulled into a home's driveway on Navarre Street. When police went to take the driver into custody, they discovered he was 15 years old.
The teen, whose name is not being released, is being held at the Monroe County Youth Center on charges related to fleeing and eluding police.
A 13-year-old inside the car was released to their family.
Authorities said there were no injuries and no property damage during the chase.
The sheriff's office has not said what prompted the attempted traffic stop prior to the chase.
