SUMMERFIELD TWP (WWJ) A utility vehicle (UTV) crash in Monroe County killed a 16-year-old boy.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said the crash occurred in Summerfield Township, on Taft near Deerfield, on Friday, June 26 shortly before 5:30 p.m.
Authorities said the teen from Petersburg was driving a 2021 Polaris Ranger in a private field, with two of his peers in the UTV.
He tried to navigate a curve and lost control of the Polaris. When he attempted to correct course, the UTV flipped over, ejecting all three teens.
First responders pronounced the 16-year-old dead at the scene.
According to sheriff's officials, none on of the teens wore a seatbelt. The parents of the other two teens rushed them to the hospital as a precaution, but they are expected to be okay.
Investigators do not believe alcohol is a factor.
