DETROIT (WWJ) - A young teen remains in the hospital Friday morning after police say he "accidentally" shot himself on Detroit's east side the day before.
According to Detroit police, the shooting happened on Thursday (Oct. 5) around 4:30 p.m. on Russell Street, near 7 Mile Road and I-75 close to Nevada Ave.
The teen was taken to a local hospital where he was last listed in serious condition on Thursday night.
The circumstances surrounding the accidental shooting haven't been released by authorities.
The incident comes days after an 8-year-old Detroit boy was shot in the head with an unsecured gun.
Police are continuing to investigate who fired the gun, as three other children, ages 1, 5 and 6, were home at the time of the incident, which happened around 11 a.m. Tuesday inside a home on Snowden Street – near Schaefer Highway and Lyndon Street.
The boy's father was arrested and charged with four counts of second-degree child abuse. Several weapons were seized from the home, police said.
Police officials previously said four adults – the boy’s parents and his aunt and uncle – were sleeping at the time of the shooting.
The boy was listed in critical condition on Wednesday afternoon.
