TAYLOR (WWJ) -- A teenager is dead after a crash involving a stolen dirtbike Downriver, according to police.

Shortly before 8 p.m. on Monday, the Taylor Police Department said its officers responded to a two-vehicle crash on S. Telegraph Rd. at the I-94 intersection.

A young man was driving a dirtbike that was reported stolen out of Shelby Township, police said.

According to investigators, 19-year-old Martin Reyes blew through a red light at intersection and was hit by a Ford Edge SUV.

Witnesses told police that the Edge driver stayed on the scene and tried to help the teenager, until paramedics arrived.

Reyes was taken to Corewell Health Hospital in Dearborn where he was pronounced dead.

While not confirmed by police officials, friends posting to social media have said Reyes bought the bike on Marketplace, and did not know that it was stolen.

Police said the Edge driver is cooperating with the ongoing investigation, and that drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.
