(WWJ) A young Troy man is facing multiple felony charges in what police described as a road rage shooting on a local freeway.
Juan Patrick Geraghty, 19, was arraigned Tuesday in connection with the incident along I-696 in Royal Oak last Friday.
According to Michigan State Police, the back window of a tow truck was shattered by gunfire just after 2:30 p.m. in the westbound lanes of the freeway near the Bermuda/Mohawk exit.
MSP said an investigation revealed the suspect cut off a tow truck and the two began "road raging."
After the tow truck driver reportedly got out and screamed at the suspect, a passenger in the backseat of the car handed the suspect a BB gun, which it's alleged he then aimed and fired.
The freeway was shut down for hours for an investigation.
Later, Geraghty and his 16-year-old girlfriend from Sterling Heights were arrested. The weapon used was recovered at the home of a friend of the suspect, police said.
Geraghty has been charged by the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office with the following: Carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent (a 5-year felony), felony firearm (a 2-year felony) and felonious assault (a 4-year felony.)
Bond was set at $500,000 cash.
No charges were announced against the girlfriend.
