ANN ARBOR (WWJ) The search for a missing University of Michigan student came to a tragic end.

Ann Arbor Police said officers recovered a body on Cambridge (1900 block) near Washtenaw Avenue on Saturday, January 24, shortly after noon. The body was identified as Lucas Mattson, 19.

Mattson was last seen when he went walking "alone without a coat on" around 1 a.m. Friday, January 23. He was reported missing approximately 15 hours later, police said.

Ann Arbor Police and University of Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security Officers conducted the nearly 20-hour search effort "in extreme cold conditions," police said. The University of Michigan Police Department Drone Unit also assisted.

"There were no obvious signs of trauma and foul play is not suspected," Ann Arbor Police said. "The Washtenaw County Medical Examiner's Office will determine cause and manner of death."

Ann Arbor Police Chief Andre Anderson and the entire Department "extends its deepest condolences to his family and loved ones, as well as the entire University of Michigan community," police said in their press release.

The University is offering crisis support to students through: Wolverine Wellness, University Health Service, and Counseling and Psychological Services.
