ALLEN PARK (WWJ) -- Two Downriver schools are closed on Monday, while administrators and police investigate a threat.

WWJ Newsradio 950's Charlie Langton reports there will be no classes for students at both Allen Park High School and Bennie Elementary School on Oct. 28, "because of an anonymous threat concerning the safety of the students and staff."

No one has been hurt.

So far, there are no details known yet about exactly what the threat entailed.

While some on social media have suggested that the entire district should have been closed for the day, the decision was made to close just those two schools.

Allen Park Public Schools Superintendent Michael H. Darga posted a message about the situation on Facebook Sunday night, writing:

"Dear Allen Park School Community,

"I want to address an important matter. This evening, we received an anonymous threat concerning the safety of our students and staff at Allen Park High School. In partnership with the Allen Park Police Department, we have decided to cancel school for all students and staff attending Allen Park High School and Bennie Elementary School, effective tomorrow, Monday, October 28, 2024.

"The safety of our students and staff is our top priority, and we are actively following our safety protocols to address this situation. We appreciate your understanding and support as we navigate this matter.

"We will keep you updated with any further information. STAFF, our building principals are working on a staff update, to stay updated, please check your email.

"Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

"Sincerely, Michael H. Darga"

While Darga indicated that the schools are working with police, the Allen Park PD did not immediately release any additional information about the situation.
