
TAYLOR (WWJ) -- Two people are in custody after a Downriver police chase involving multiple law enforcement agencies led to two school lockdowns.
According to Taylor Police, the pursuit began Thursday morning after officers made a traffic stop in the area of Southland Mall/Trader’s Point.
Police said the the two suspects fled the scene, but officials were able to dart their vehicle with a StarChase GPS tracking device.
The men fled to an area behind Trillium Academy, on Racho Blvd. in Taylor, before getting their vehicle stuck.
They then tried to run away, but were arrested, police said.
Taylor Police noted in a news release that the suspects "apparently may have been armed," but there were no reports of any gunfire.
Both Trillium Academy and Gudith Elementary School in Brownstown were placed on lockdown as a precaution, prior to the men's arrest.
Along with the Taylor PD, Michigan State Police, DEA, Brownstown Police and others assisted during the incident, which included the use of four K9 units, helicopters and drones.
Police did not say whether the suspect had warrants, or what led to the initial traffic stop.
The suspects' names were not immediately released.
Police noted that it's early in the investigation, and further details may be released at a later time.
