(WWJ) — Two men are in custody for allegedly stealing dozens of infotainment screens from trucks across Macomb County this year.

The men — a 23-year-old from Detroit and a 26-year-old from Roseville — were arrested Thursday, Aug. 21 while breaking into vehicles, according to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office.

The Macomb Auto Theft Squad (MATS) has investigated 87 reports of Dodge Ram infotainment screens being stolen throughout the county. Officials say some victims even had their infotainment screens stolen more than once from the same vehicle.

After months of investigating, authorities identified the suspects and began surveillance. During a surveillance detail on Thursday, detectives saw them “actively breaking into vehicles” and they were able to take them into custody, the sheriff’s office said.

The Detroit Police Department and Oakland County Sheriff’s Office’s Auto Theft Unit assisted in making the arrests.

Authorities have not identified the suspects, as charges are pending and the investigation continues. While the sheriff’s office says they were arrested for the incidents this week, it’s not immediately clear whether they’re directly linked to the other thefts.
