2 arrested for killing Dearborn florist during attempted carjacking outside restaurant

DEARBORN (WWJ – Two suspects have been arrested following the murder of a Dearborn florist during an attempted carjacking Tuesday night.

Dearborn police officials say Hassan Salame, a well-known florist in the community, was shot and killed outside a restaurant near Ford Road and Greenfield around 9:30 p.m.


Authorities say Salame and another person were walking towards their car after dinner when two suspects approached them and shot Salame. Dearborn police officers arrived within minutes and began lifesaving measures.

Salame was pronounced dead at the hospital, while the second victim was not injured, according to police.

"This tragic event has shaken our community to its core. Dearborn is more than a collection of neighborhoods; when tragedy strikes one of us, it impacts all of us," Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud said. "As we mourn the devastating loss of beloved community member Hassan Salame, I share my deepest condolences with his family and friends who are grappling with unimaginable pain.

While two people have been arrested in connection with Salame's death, police are still investigating the incident.

Authorities have not released any details about the suspects or any further information about the shooting.

Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin said the department "will leave no stone unturned and will utilize all available resources to bring those involved in this heinous crime to justice."
