2 dead after head-on crash on Van Dyke in Washington Township

(WWJ) Two people were killed in a car crash in Macomb County's Washington Township.

The Macomb County Sheriff's Office was called to an "unknown incident" in the area of Van Dyke Road and West Road at around 12:40 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 10, authorities said.

Deputies said they found three severely damaged vehicles and debris across the roadway once they arrived on scene.

An investigation found that a white Ford Bronco, which was traveling south on Van Dyke, crossed the centerline and hit a silver Toyota Prius head on. A gray Chrysler 200, which was driving behind the Prius, hit the Prius from behind.

Authorities said the deputies shut down Van Dyke at West Road in both directions and immediately began rendering aid.

DTE was notified after it was found that the Bronco hit a utility pole, causing downed live wires, police said.

The 58-year-old Oakland Township man who driving the Bronco was pronounced dead at Henry Ford hospital. A 38-year-old Livonia man who was a passenger of the Prius was pronounced dead at Troy Beaumont Hospital, officials said.

The drivers of the Prius and Chrysler 200 were reported to have non-life-threatening injuries.
