DETROIT (WWJ) - Two people are dead after a fire ripped through a home on Detroit's east side early Friday morning.
Detroit fire officials said crews responded to the blaze around 5 a.m. in the 3400 block of Kirby. WWJ's Charlie Langton said fire fighters pulled two victims from the home.
One victim, a man in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene, Langton reported. The second victim, a woman in her 90s, was rushed to a local hospital for treatment, but later died.
The pair's identities and relation to one another have not been made public at this time. Langton said family members were arriving at the scene just before 7 a.m.
Langton said the fire appeared to have started on the upper level of the home.
"We don't know the cause, although arson is on the scene as well," Langton reported. "The fire is out, but now the investigation continues."
Additional details are expected to be released by authorities as they become available.
