DETROIT (WWJ) - A woman and her boyfriend are reportedly dead after a domestic incident on Detroit's west side spiraled into a barricaded gunman situation early Tuesday morning.
As reported by WXYZ, a male suspect and a female victim were found dead in apparent murder-suicide inside a home in the 3700 block of Oakman Boulevard in the area of Livernois and Fullerton.
According to Deputy Chief Arnold Williams of the Detroit Police Department, the incident appeared to have escalated after the couple began arguing over a gun, with police called out to the scene around 11 p.m. on Monday on reports of a woman possibly being held captive inside the home.
"When we got here, the officers came to see that the two daughters of the victim have been released, they were outside," he said in an update to the case. "We were able to talk to the two daughters they gave us some information that their mom and her boyfriend had been arguing."
Officers also learned that the mother and her boyfriend both were armed and had weapons registered to them.
In an update around 2 a.m., Williams told reporters that they had not been able to make any contact with the suspect or the victim since arriving on scene.
Williams said that police may have to "escalate" their efforts to reach the couple after learning of the weapons inside the house.
At around 3 a.m., WXYZ reported police were able to enter the home and discovered the suspect and victim deceased.
WWJ is working to learn additional details about the incident. No other information was released.
