2 arrested after duo allegedly admitted they had meth, pills & large machete in vehicle during Shelby Twp. traffic stop

SHELBY TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A traffic stop in Shelby Township turned into two arrests last week after the driver and a passenger allegedly told police they had drugs and a large machete in their vehicle.

Shelby Township police said a 52-year-old Brighton man and a 31-year-old Yale woman were taken into custody on Friday, Jan. 19 when an officer pulled them over around 4:25 p.m. in the area of Schoenherr and 22 Mile Road.

The male driver was questioned and eventually informed the officer that he had a revoked driver's license. A check revealed that he also had several warrants out for his arrest, the department added.

The female passenger also spoke with police and admitted there was methamphetamine concealed under the front center seat.

"A search of the vehicle recovered approximately 24 grams of methamphetamine, several narcotic prescription pills, scales, and a large machete that was found under the driver's seat of the vehicle.

The duo were arrested with warrant requested submitted to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office, police said.

Later on, the male suspect told police he was in the area to sell drugs to a user.

Shelby Township Police Chief Robert Shelide reiterated in a press release that the department remains diligent in keeping illegal drugs out of people's hands.

"Our department will remain steadfast in our commitment to do everything possible to keep these dangerous drugs off the streets of our township. In addition to our local resources, we continue to partner with the Drug Enforcement Agency to help us in our mission," Shelide said.
