PLYMOUTH (WWJ) — Two people are dead after their SUV crossed the median of I-275 and rolled over early Sunday morning in Plymouth.

A 46-year-old Lenawee County woman and a 21-year-old man from Canton were both killed after being thrown from a Ford Edge, according to Michigan State Police.

The crash happened around 3:20 a.m. on I-275 near Ann Arbor Trail. Investigators say the woman was headed south on I-275 when she lost control of the SUV.

The Ford crossed into the median and back up the embankment on the northbound side of the freeway, according to MSP.

The SUV was “launched” onto the northbound side and rolled over, MSP officials said. It was not clear what caused the driver to lose control.

The driver of a northbound Buick LaCrosse slammed into the rolled over Ford. That driver sustained minor injuries.

Officials say neither the driver nor the passenger who died in the crash were wearing their seatbelts.

The freeway was closed for several hours as crews investigated. It was not immediately clear if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
